A three-day (27-29 November 2018) Religious Literacy Workshop in Bandung, West Java, concluded with a sharp optimism. The program, held at the Ministry's Center for Education and Training, is a collaboration between ICRS and its partners, namely British Embassy, British Council and the Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs. The Minister of Religious Affairs Lukman Hakim Saifuddin, British Ambassador Moazzam Malik and British Council Country Director Paul Smith graced the event. The training program was aimed at improving the capacity of religious leaders and teachers under the Ministry of Religious Affairs especially on contemporary issues, promoting social justice and tolerance. In his opening address, Mr. Malik said he hopes politicians in Indonesia will not exploit ethnicity, religion, and race (SARA) issues for political gain because will put the nation’s future in danger. He hopes as a Muslim majority country, Indonesia could maintain tolerance and brotherhood among different groups. Media reports covering the event can be viewed here:
