Call for Application: International Ph. D Program in Inter Religious Studies

All applicants are invited to apply for an International Ph. D Program in Religious Studies at the Indonesian Consortium for Religious Studies (ICRS-Yogya). The Ph.D. Program takes four years and includes one semester at a leading foreign university. The Program is conducted in English.

The Indonesian Consortium for Religious Studies (ICRS-Yogya)  is a consortium of three leading universities in Yogyakarta: Gadjah Mada University, State Islamic University Sunan Kalijaga, and Duta Wacana Christian University.

ICRS-Yogya offers research opportunities in many areas connected with study of religion in Asia, including:

  1. Cultural and Historical Studies of Religion
  2. Religion and Contemporary Issues
  3. Comparative Interpretation of Sacred Texts

What is special about studying at ICRS-Yogya?

What are the requirements for admission?
  1. A first degree (S1) from an accredited institution in any subject
  2. A Master’s degree (S2) from an accredited institutions in a subject related to the anticipated field of research
  3. A S2 grade point average (GPA or IP) of at least 3.40 on a 4.00 scale
  4. An institutional or international TOEFL (or IELTS equiv.) of at least 550. Applicants with scores above 500 may be considered
  5. Applicants who intend to focus their study on textual research must show competence in at least one of the relevant language(s) of their chosen research (e.g. Arabic, Hebrew, Greek, Sanskrit, Pali, old Javanese, etc.)
  6. Three academic letters of recommendation on ICRS-Yogya forms
  7. Fill out an ICRS-Yogya application form
  8. Students must be full-time and resident in Yogya for at least 2 years
Limited scholarships are available for deserving students. Students must fill out a financial aid application form and submit it along with their application.
